Hello Tony,
After I posted my earlier response, I revisited the Charles O. Probst book on Bosch fuel injection and in the section "continuous injection - troubleshooting & service on page 12 I found where he states the following: "If you are having problems with mixture that are genarally too rich or lean, make a different delivery check before you begin measuring system pressure and control pressure. you want to measure the fuel quantity that passes through the restrictors in the fuel distributor. In K basic and K lambda, if the restrictor has eroded to allow too much fuel, that extra fuel will increase control pressure and lean the mixture. It is less likely, but possible that the restrictor is clogged, that will decrease control pressure and enrich the mixture". He goes on to say that to measure the flow through the restrictors to connect a line to the control pressure fitting on top of the fuel distributor ( as in the video) and if the flow does not fall within the required spec quantity of 160 to 240cc in one minute there is an issue. My thoughts is, that 160 to 240cc is not a whole lot of volume in one minute, so perhaps the quantity of flow in the video is OK. Again, just my thoughts. Dave |
Thanks to Tony I found that my WUR was in fact out of spec and needed rebuilding. No worries, he got me squared away so I put everything back in the car (FD, WUR, etc) primed the system using the fuel pump relay switch, tossed the relay in and went to start it; here's where things get interesting.
The car turned over for a second then it just stopped rotating. Thought it may have been a weak battery from sitting for a few weeks so I put a jump box on it, same thing. The starter is functioning, but doesn't turn the engine over, it sounds like there's something physically stopping it from rotating, which makes no sense to me. In addition to that, I'm now blowing fuses in my fuel pump relay switch. I'm pulling my brand new fuel pump to inspect it to see if there are issues there. After the rebuilt fuel components were reinstalled I tested the flow and was still getting bubbles in the bypass line (same as video above). I'm wondering if there's some kind of blockage somewhere upstream in the system that's causing the fuel pump to blow fuses since it can't push past it and also causing my low fuel flow rate. Thoughts? |
Quick follow up, I re-referenced myself with the Bentley and it calls for a 25 amp fuse (for some reason I remember seeing 7.5A online somewhere).
Noticed with the relay in place fuel was leaking out of the 1-3 exhaust at one of the joints; pulled the exhaust, cranked the car over and it puked a ton of fuel out and started right up. Needless to say my screwing around just flooded the car. Buttoning the exhaust back up and will run further diagnostics. |
In your video you can hear the fuel flowing through the injectors that's what that high pitched squeal was. The FD was wide open full throttle. Was the sensor plate stuck in the full open position?
