Factory Koni struts - rebuild?
I have a set of early KONI struts for my 71 ST project. They came with the roller and are in need of some maintenence. I have pulled the insert from the housing and they have been thoroughly cleaned.
What type of oil do I re-fill them with? The old stuff was quite used up. I assume that some type of anti-foaming hydrualic/shock oil is needed. Any suggestions on weight, brand, etc? What about Motorcycle fork oil just because its easy to find. btw, this is not the ATF cooling fluid as seen on other struts. these are the hydrualic versions. I have to say that the adjustable damping mechanism is so simple. Just an orifice with adjustable opening to control rebound. I love simplicity in a good design. The pistons are nice and clean and no detectable play in the plunger. I was going to replace the seals on the top cap. any source for these? I did not see them in our hosts catalog but have not yet called to ask. Thanks in advance

Jamie,
Motorcycle fork oil would be appropriate ... heaviest you can find -- probably SAE 40. Let us know what you find on replacement seals, etc. You may want to consider getting the inner tube electroless nickel plated to build up for the wear over the years.

Thanks Warren,
I repost when I find info on the seals. They were not leaking but they might start since they have been disturbed. I will mic up the parts and check for wear before looking into having them plated. Now, time to start calling for fork oil. Jamie
