Max Power for 2.4 Engine

In addition to the original 2.2E I am considering I also have an option for an RS Clone built on a real long hood chassis. The build is said to produce more power in hp and tq than a real RS.

I know this may be a difficult question to answer but what is the max output you would expect from a 2.4L motor that was rebuilt with 2.2 E pistons and 2.4 S cylinders running 9.8:1 compression?

The car is a blast to drive but I was not sure if a 2.4 was up to producing 210hp and 188 tq like the RS.

Ask them for a dyno sheet to prove their talk.

Lots of other factors beside compression. What is the intake, Carbs, MFI? What cam?

I imagine that 210 is possible from a 2,4, at least in theory depending on the mods.

Years ago I built a 2.4 with 9.5/ CR, 34mm ports, mod-Solex cams and MFI that made 168hp at the wheels. That’s about 197hp at the crank.

Assuming you keep your E cams and 32mm ports, I’d say it’ll be around 175hp at the crank.

A race cam might get you up there, but will you be driving up there (upper rpms) regularly? Unless you have the grunt of add'l cubic inches and depending on your build specs, torque and power may only be available at different engine speeds. Cubic inches help fill in power deficiencies that occur at lower engine speeds.

Why would you do that and not use the larger pistons and jugs of the 2.7?

I have a 2.4E MFI with 2.4 S pistons and E cams headers. Slightly ported T heads (same as E) It puts out 145HP and 145 T on a dyno jet. That's around 170 at crank. With S ports, S+ cams etc you could probably get another 15hp at the wheels.

Plenty of 2.0 race motors make 210+, so not a problem at all on a 2.4, but have you ever driven a motor like that on the street?
