I took a budget route and repainted (diff color) the interior panels for my 87 Targa using interior paint and approach outlined here on the forums. Almost everything was vinyl except for the bottom seats for the rear which are leather. Turned out great and looks really good.
I want to keep it that way. Do I use the same approach to treating and protecting it as I did before I painted using leather conditioner / cleaner and 303 Vinyl protectant? Thanks in advance.

Not all interior paints are impervious to solvents so take care - maybe just use the 303 as a cleaner/protectant as it should be pretty gentle.
As they say, test in an inconspicuous area first!!

Have good luck with Lexol Vinylex. It cleans and protects. Follow Jonny042 advise!

I use this A LOT. It's been very good, for many years of use in a variety of cars. My new-to-me 911 has already had a lot of this used on both the interior and exterior.

Great feedback. Thanks. Have the 303 so will start with that when needed.

Besides that,You have painted it.Its now the coating thats exposed, not tanned leather.Basically, nothing is going to penetrate the paint.Tanning & colourisation of leather, is very much different to painting it. |

Great point and makes sense. Didn't think of it that way. I guess I could have dyed it but thought painting was way to go.

I would give the interior a couple of months, especially during the summer for any of the VOCs to evaporate. And then use the 303 and test with more than a one time spot test.
Another alternative might be a water based dressing after the summer months airing. Something like Carpro Perl which was made for plastic, engine, rubber and leather(PERL). And since it’s mixed with water in different dilutions you can mix up your shine preference. I use their recommended 1:5 for interior and use on everything in the cabin. CTopher |
