Membership benefits
Those of you who belong to Porsche Clubs around the world could I ask if your membership to your club provides you discounts at Approved Porsche Service Centres for either servicing or sales on parts?
Curious. Thanks Mark

I get a PCA Discount at my local P-dealer, when I choose to buy parts from them as opposd to other sources.
I can't speak for service as my oldie (but goodie) gal is too old for them young fellows to handle.

Dunno about any "benefits", but Porsche Club of Finland has these slalom events, meetings, and now this spring they are going to visit the Porsche factory in Germany.

We get a discount on parts at the dealer. That brings the prices down to about double the prices at Pelican.

Think the local dealer gives 15% or 20% (I have gotten both) off of parts and maybe even labor. However with my 78 they seldom have the required parts so I rarely use them.
Bought the throttle body o-ring from them and had to purchase 5 of them or they wouldn't sell. Also bought my Pilot bearing from them as they had it in stock and they only wanted $19 for it.

Ah, you missed out. Some buddies used the coupon for some cool shirts and jackets. Quite a deal really.

FYI...A recent email I received from a PCA inquiry I made...
Diana The first parts certificate was mailed 5/31/2002. Another one is being planned for this spring. As long your membership is active you would be on the mailing list to receive. PCA |

I used to belong to the club. However, I did not see much use for it other than getting a discount from Performance Products. Then I discovered Pelican and they are even cheaper than the Performance's discount.
I am no longer a member thereafter. Go figure! |

Membership benefits in PCA are just like membership benefits in any organization, the more YOU put into the organizaiton the more You get out of it!!!
If your are just looking for discounts from Porsche Dealers etc , then membership in PCA is not for you. Look at this BBS - the more you involve yourself, the more you learn and can contribute. Every parts place, Porsche shop and Dealer has it's function - I'm glad we have the choice!! Been a member of PCA since 1975. I've learned a great deal from this BBS by being involved. I do business with other shops and the Porsche Dealer and neither are mutually exclusive - depends on what the needs are at the time. ![]() |

I'm with you, up to a point. I've spent many hours on the phones with the Pelican Parts sages and frequently the parts I need are only available through dealerships (probably b/c PP wouldn't move enough of them to justify carrying them). When I deal with Porsche dealerships, I definitely comparison shop. A few advertise in Pano to sell at just above their cost, and I've had good luck. I'd rather give Wayne & Co. the ducats, but when I can't, those coupons come in right handy. - jPp

The PCA is hard to quantify in a ROI sense - I pay $XX/yr and save $XX/yr, so its a good investment, etc. What are the benefits I see? I like hanging out with other Porsche owners - people who *get* why I like 70-71 911s better than 72-73s (more chrome and the 901). L like pretty much anything Porsche, so I love seeing 944s and 968s and 914s and 356s at the meetings. I have the opportunity to go to DE events, etc. Although I will say that the PCA here in DC is very large and active, so maybe in different areas it doesn't make as much sense. To me however, the 10% off at local dealerships only means they're screwing you 10% less than they normally would.

Thnaks for your replies guys.
Reason I'm asking.... (Flame suit on....) I've had a problem trying to unlock my cab roof. I went out and bought a volt meter to check current and I know one side is missing it somewhere but I cant find it. I rang the dealer and they want HK$800 just as an inspection fee! ![]() ![]() The there's the cost of repairing.... I am a member of the local P-club and enquired about discount offers at the dealer. ![]() ![]() I'm sure its a simple electrical problem so I was really hoping they could give a quick diagnosis and I'd bend over for the cost of repair just to get this problem out the way....bugger that though when I have to bay $800 just for the inspection. Oh well...I'll just keep farting around until I find the solution I guess. Anyhow, thanks for the replies...I'll be getting back to my club about the issue of discounts. Cheers Mark

SweetE,
I like to belong to clubs. I did not join PCA just for discounts. As a matter of fact, I did not even know that membership gets discount. |
