fresh air blower failure rate

I owned my 911 for 4 years before I knew that the top lever on the climate controls should turn on an electric fan. I stumbled across mention of the fresh air blower motor and dove into the owners manual and was bummed to find that the fan appeared to be inop.

I replaced the fan motor and got it working again but I'm curious.
How many others out there have had this fan stop working? Anyone else not know that a motor even existed for "fresh air"?

These cars have the most complex analog climate control system I've ever seen! It works once you understand it but it is anything but simple.

Mine died a few weeks ago. Started squeaking, then smelled like something was burning. Where did you get the new fan motor?

Mine had the brush holders melt, killing the motor.

Replaced it with a new motor from Bosch -

URO and "GERMAN" both offer replacement motors WITH the the squirrel cage fan. Not a bad idea as my assembly isn't balanced all that great now and is a bit noisy.

Are you looking for the center (trunk) blower?

I was driving my 83 SC this fall and noticed when I turned on the fresh air blower motor it made a squeezing sound for a few moments then quieted down. I hit a road bump and it now does not work at all. Not sure if it is a relay or the motor itself. I guess I will working on this project this winter.

Mine didn’t work when I purchased the car. Installed the new motor and no change in comfort. It doesn’t move enough air to do anything.

Ha ha - no doubt! And in fact, I blocked mine off entirely, as for 10 months of the year here, I do not want even a trickle of outside air entering the cabin and interfering with my rolling meatlocker!
