Driver side flag mirror location? (found co-driver side measurements, but not this)

Gonna install a flag mirror on drivers side in couple hours. Anybody have measurements or a good picture where it should be?

thanks in advance.

I know that the driver side is different from the passenger side, at least mine is. Hopefully someone here will have the right measurements for the driver side. Im saving for some RUF type mirrors. Good luck.

Just went out to my '86 Carrera and did some measurments. Don't make fun of my drawing that I scanned in here! Probably easier for you to look at the drawing and then ask questions.

On my 72, I had my girlfriend hold it and move it while I sat in the car. There is probably a specific location, but I feel it all depends on where you keep your seat positioned.

Hi Zan, I think if you remove your door panel on the inside of the door skin, you should be able to see an embossed pattern that outlines the location for the mirror.. My buddy did what your doing and ended up installing the mirror in the wrong location. We pulled the mentioned above parts off and seen the Embossed pattern. His 911 was a 72
Good luck, also remember to measure twice cut once.

I once installed a RH mirror on a 1980 and made the mistake of putting it "Mirror Image" (No pun intended) to the LH mirror. Looked cool, but the functionality was off. The metal post or rail that separates the wind wing and the side window was right in the center of the mirror. Also the mirrors top edge was not parallel to the ground nor the other mirror. I ended up wedging the mirror bracket and welding and sculpting.

The friend I was doing the work for was happy as well as his customer, but I wasn't proud of the functionality.

Measure 10 times, drill once!

I also am in need of the correct location for the drivers side flag mirror. The door is from an early car and does not have the holes in it. In addition the old early style mirror holes are filled.

I tried using the above supplied sketch to properly locate the mirror holes but I have some questions.

Does the oval circle represent the mirror base ?

I can't tell where to start measuring from for the 13 cm measurement. The door edge follows a curve causing the measurment to be different.

Is the measurment down from the horizontal surface indicating 6mm ? And where on the horizontal surface do I take the 6mm measurement ?

I am not sure what is meant by Door rubber. Is this the rubber above the chrome strip on an early door ? Or is the 4.1 cm measurement taken from the bottom of the chrome strip?

Any additional help will be appreciated.

Don
