Angry Boxter S - "pain on the butt"

Hello there, I recently bought a Boxster S and I am experiencing some discomfort with my comfort package seat. Seems like I keep sliding to my left, and a result, the left bolster is digging into my left thigh causing great discomfort and eventually great pain in my left leg. I’ve contacted my dealer over the phone and they reply that this concern is absolutely isolated and they have no idea how to help me. I suspect that my seat is out of alignment, causing me to slide sideways.

Has anyone heard of such problem? Thank you in advance for your help.

Alex

Dear Alex. I feel your pain. The sliding to the left in the Boxster is a common problem among Boxster owners. What is happening is a malady known as "Boxster Rejection Syndrome." It occurs when a person purchases a car other than a 911 believing it to be a "true" Porsche. This malady also occurs among 924/944/928 and to a lesser extent 914 owners (but only because they know their car is actually a VW). The only known cure is to sell your Boxster and purchase a 911.

Hmmm, cross-posted on two other forums.

Still, the humor potential is almost irresistable... "Boxster" "left-leaning" "San Francisco" "butt hurts" but I am way too polite to take a cheap shot here, on the off chance he may be serious.

The way I solved the same problem in my 944 was to install racing seats with 5-point harnesses. The roll cage also helps.

If its a tiptronic with a tilt wheel, you could drive with your left leg crossed over. I used to drive my old Buick with a bench seat like that after I crashed my bike on my left side and couldn't sit right.

Kurt, just mosey on up here for one of our autocross events. Bring whatever car you like, but be prepared to get your butt kicked by a VW (914).

Hi Alex,

You bought a luxury car from a luxury profit dealer.
If they say that is a normal seat suggest they put you in one of their demo boxters for 72 hours so you can be sure.

If they can't deal with that ask them to make an appointment for you with their regional porsche representative.

Don't let any problem with a new car from porsche go on for more than about ten minutes before you start howling!.

Just my opinion.

best Mark

Check the Techquip listing. I think they have a couple of performance mods for this problem. One consists of velcro strips applied to the seat and a pair of Boxster S chaps with the corresponding velcro sewn in. The other consists of a set of high dollar Porsche specific unobtanium spacers (washers) which are inserted between the seat mounting rail and the seat on the left side providing a slant to the right. Hey it is April 1 after all!

geez you guys are horrible...

well if this is not a april fools joke...

maybe you drive more aggresively then most boxster drivers...
you may just need to upgrade your seats...

try test driving a boxster with the stock seats...test drive a 996...if you like either seat better try to see if the dealer will trade yours...or keep your eye on ebay...some wreced 996/boxsters part out their interior

if all this fails buy a race-inspired seat...sparco makes a great seat -- milano...looks great in my opinion...there are so many options.

I explored this option with my dealer, but they refuse to “modify” the stock set-up. At this point I just want to know if there are other people who experience the same problem with the Boxter’s seat as I do. I cannot believe that my problem is so isolated.

Is there anybody with the same problem??? If yes, what can be done?

Alex

If you haven't already done so try the Boxster forum http://forums.pelicanparts.com/boxster-cayman-forum/ where they may have more direct experience.

If I'd paid the price for a Boxster S at a Porsche Dealer and they didn't help here I'd be complaining to Porsche themselves!
