Clutch adjustment on the G50??
Can the hydraulic clutch on the G50 be adjusted? On my '88, the clutch lets out toward the very end of the pedal travel. It seems like it needs to be loosened because there is no free play of the pedal at rest, and it seems stiffer from the at rest position than it is when pressed closer to the floor. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks! David |

Have you had the needle bearing upgrade done? My '87 clutch is original and takes some leg strength to operate but otherwise sounds about like your clutch. I'm looking forward to the day that I get the clutch upgrade done.

If the clutch pedal mechanism is the same as a '90, then this will apply. (I skipped from an '84 with the old cable to this '90)
There is a turn screw on the helper spring lever mechanism on the pedal cluster. It is directly behind the accelerator pedal. This will help set the pedal height/free play. As the gap is narrowed, it prompts an earlier release of the spring which helps depress the master cylinder plunger. This also takes up slack in the pedal. Hope it helps. |

According to the Bentley manual, the G50 hydraulic clutch is non-adjustable. The mechanism automatically adjusts itself as the clutch wears out. Sorry buddy, you're in the same situation as me - a clutch replacement in the near future.

Dave ,
there are a significant number of postings on this situation, probably around last April or May. Basically, clutch, fork, and new bearing which requires some machining. Pellican Parts has a kit for this update. It seems this is unique to the 87,88 models. The system was updated in the later 88's and 89 G50's. Brace yourself, cost around 2,500 including new flywheel and the other seals and gaskets that you'll want to replace while the engine is out. This estimate is based on previous postings and your mechanic doing the work. They are familiar w/this procedure at Pelican and I would encourage you to contact them before speaking w/ your mechanic about the -procedure. Please keep us posted w/ a new Post labeled G50 clutch so those of us to follow may have the benefit of youe experience. My Best Mrdi ------------------ |

It is possible to make some adjustments to the linkage and the slave cylinder. Check to make sure you don't have excessive play there and take up any slack if neccesary.

Guys, I got my car back from the mechanic, it is an 89 g-model. He fixed the engine and transmission and replace the pressure plate and clutch. They were replaced for a Patric motorsport and a Specs stage 1.
The problem is that the clutch is way down and it is very difficult to drive it. I am wondering if there is a way to adjust it? any advise will be appreciated it - thanks! |

I asked him, probably I should insist in the question.

Start by having him pressure bleed the system.

Thanks John, and sharing the experience. I went back to my mechanic and he reviewed the clutch. It was confusing because the hydraulics were not touch, but he bled the clutch and it fixed the problem. I am not sure if when the slave piston expanded , after removed it from the transmission - it caught air... the good thing that after bleeding the system the problem was solved.
Once again Thank you for all your feedback. |
