Alternator and Fuel Pump Questions

I have a 1970 911t that I imported from the US to the UK. My alternator has a grumbling bearing and very few places rebuild in the UK these days so I have to replace. I don't really want to pay porsche part numbers and there seem to be a bunch of replacements.

Did the 1970 911t have an internal or external regulator? What would be a good cheaper replacement?

Also, my car has a cheap, crappy replacement fuel pump that is on it's way out. What are good replacements if I do not want to pay Porsche prices? This is a car with original Zenith carbs.

Per your alternator question, the 70T originally had an external VR mounted engine compartment left on the electrical panel. I would strongly suggest you do some searching for an electrical speciality shop. Bearing replacement is pretty basic repair, and have them check out all other alternator functions. Rob

I’d look for a Pierburg low pressure (3.5 psi) fuel pump as a replacement. Also, I’d agree that the original alternator could be rebuilt by any competent shop.

So does anyone know the correct part number for the 911t 1970 alternator? I want to fix or replace as close to original as possible but getting confused on the correct part number.

Lots of options if you want to change to an internal alternator but none for an original fitting alternator to use with the external regulator.

Standard internal regulator alt. won’t fit your fan housing.
You’ll need a fan housing with a 19mm inside alt. Seat. That was started in 1975 housing through 77
78/79 uses a smaller fan so it won’t work for your application.
The 80 to 83 is compatible with on board VR
Easy to identify the OB alt with the 8mm Allen recess at the 24 mm nut.
On board VR was started about 1981 as Paris-Rhône or Verlo brand

Thanks Bruce. I am actually looking to keep it with the external regulator so looking for the original part number of the 1970 alternator that will use the external reg.

So, I found a great firm who fixed alternators about 30 mins from me. A couple of bearings and a couple of hours later they are fixing so I can keep the original!

Still looking for good suggestions for a replacement fuel pump for my zeniths.
