well if you can find a compressor map for that KP61 turbo you can see if it works for your displacement/rpm. if it doesn't, you're screwed on turbocharging that little buzzer.

l think that turbo will be small enough. You`ll get some lag maybe but it`ll work. Were you going blow through or draw through? You may need an electric fuel pump to keep up the fuel flow, which is how the factory turbo bike are set up.

i was thinking about blowing through but im open to suggestions. can someone explain to me what sort of fabrication will need to be done other than inlet/exhaust manifolds. im familliar with the theory of the turbo producing boost and then when the throttle is shut off, the excess boost is thrown through the wastegate. is this a built in setup or will i have to buy a wastegate to use with the turbo? as for oiling, i assume a seperate tank with a small electric pump perhaps, or maybe tapping into the existing engine oil system? will there be anything electrical to think about?

I did some calculations and I think the BW KP31 is probably too big. I used a 50x50mm bore and stroke, I'm not sure if this is right but it should be close. you should contact the guy with the turbo bar stool and see what IHI model he used, and what his power characteristics are like (like is their just a little boost in the top 1000 rpm, none elsewhere). The IHI RHF3 has a max flow rate of .12 kg/sec vs .09 for the KP31. The IHI RHB3 might be smaller than the KP31. The KP31 is the smallest turbo for automotive gas and diesel applications, but it may not be the smallest overall.

edit: geo metro/suzuki swift guys say the RHB3 is big for them, so that's a no go. still not sure how it compares to RHF3.

cheers guys, kobalt, thanks for the maths. ive emailed the guy with the turbo barstool and he's reluctant to tell me anything, even though on his website he's advertising the turbos for sale (??) he says that there is lots of one off parts and wont tell me the model no of the turbo. all i know is that is an IHI turbo. ive learned that much from the website.
I have emailed him again but no reply yet.

I bet I know why....

I noticed he said it's $1400. for a turbo this small you're unlikely to be able to find it in some junkyard on a car for cheap. there were a few turbo motorcycles in the mid 80s, that's probably the smallest you could get for cheap. Otherwise this project will get pretty expensive quick if you have to buy a new turbo.

i can see you point andy but, even if he can;t get hold of them, you'd think he'd let me know the bloody model no of the turbo he used!!
