Bilstein shock seal Cap (wiper seal)

Can anyone tell me part number for this Bilstein Dust cap. Came off a 1983 Bilstein strut.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1579138329.jpg

I'm not 100%, but I'm pretty sure that's going to be a Bilstein part #, doesn't look like the Porsche catalog breaks down the strut that much.

Mine ('84) look different, like the ones on the left here:

Elephant offers the shorter ones on the right as an upgrade, maybe call / contact them since they do Bilstein rebuilds? This is on their website concerning those upgraded seals:

Quote:

Note: Only for later style Bilstein struts with green seal holders, as pictured above. Earlier style struts with zinc coated 5/8″ holders require further strut modifications. Please call for more information.
So I'll wager what you have is the earlier style strut with the 5/8" holder they are referring to.

Yes, I have the earlier style. Much thinner than 1984 and later. Looks like 1/2 or 5/8. I cant seem to find a part #

If no luck with Bilstein. Call Elephant Racing. They have in stock.

Bilstein is on holiday until 1/4/21. Elephant has them for $25 each but I'm still not sure how to remove them

911 SLANT 12-29-2020 02:03 PM

They are pressed on. I just used a hammer and piece of wood to knock them off.

My wiper seals look different than yours. My seal seems to be taller than yours.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1609280348.jpg

Those are the early style Bilstein wiper seals, I just replaced mine.

Elephant Racing supplied the parts, not exactly the same seal as the Bilstein oe seal (ERP's seal is a bit shorter) but ERP supplies two spacer rings to make it all fit correctly.

Also, the metal cap visible in your picture gets re-used, the seal and spacers fit under that cap.

And yes, the metal cap just taps off the body leaving the wiper seal in the tube which can easily be pulled out (if the strut inserts are removed).

edit - Sorry Harpo, I was looking at 911Slants photos your setup is different. But, it sure looks like those seals should pull out the same way

I went through this with the struts on my racecar a few years ago. I also needed the shorter ones. I spoke to Chuck and he got me the right ones.

There is a lip on the inside that perhaps I could get a pilot bearing puller to grab a hold of.

Thanks

David
