Mystery sunroof part

1979 SC

Can someone tell me where in the sunroof this goes or a part number?
Looked at the parts diagram in the PET and can not find it. When I took the car apart and the sunroof tracks out it was laying loose in that area.

Thanks

That is a guide pin for the rear of the sunroof track. They often come out and are found laying loose in the cavity when a track is removed.

The skinny end slides into the rear of the track; I think if you look at the rear end of the track it’s location will be obvious. Slide it into the track up to the ridge.

The fat, back end of the pin goes into a hole in the rear of the sunroof assembly to locate the back of the track.

The parts drawing doesn’t show this as available as a separate part but rather as part of the track. But the one you pictured is perfectly reusable. The bent part will be fine once it is inserted back into the rail.

I have a PDF of sunroof disassembly/reassembly if you are interested, but l will need your email-mail to send it via Dropbox. Too large a file to send otherwise.

You mean one is missing? That could only have happened during some prior disassembly. There should be one at the rear of each track. I think if it is not in place there could be a significant water leak.

Good luck finding that. Maybe you could find someone to 3D print it. Shouldn’t be hard, and it’s not a structural part. Once it has performed its functions (locating the rear of the track and plugging the hole) the actual securing of the track in position comes when you screw it down.

To follow up I realized the one I had was bent and the other was completely missing. My buddy made me two on his lathe and they worked perfect. Here is the old bent one and one of the new ones. Glad I have friends that are way more talented than me. I could have never made that by myself.
