1984 Door Lock Cylinder mystery

Hey, hope someone has some knowledge on door lock cylinders. I am working on a 84 that when i bought it was missing the driver door lock cylinder. In the picture is the remains of what i have when i take it apart, i have ordered from two different sites (our host also but was cancelled because discontinued) but non of the cylinders that i bought fit, they are too short and seem to be for a different handle. Is this handle not for a 84? and where would i get a lock with key that fits in my handle?

Thanks in advance.

i believe the handle on your picture is for door with central locking system. That little plastic tube is for triggering the little niple on door locking sensor.
Ivan
this sensor goes on the side of you handle

Not sure if this helps, as I’m dealing with my own strange lock issue, but this is a stock 86 lock. As far as I can tell 84-86 are the same.

On the top pic, you have see the “tube” that accepts the central lock trigger. It just moves it L-R to actuate the switch.

I cleaned mine out and made sure the electric switch was working as it should. I found that the bolts that fasten the door to the lock screw into the Handel, and if not set all the way in/deep, the spring on the handle pull will bind or interfere with the turn key mechanism.

back to the origin..as i have mentioned ..Do you have central locking in your 1984 911 ..i suppose it did not come yet in 1984..then we can talk ..You need the longer version of tumbler..for this door handle...........

Hey all, thanks for the quick response. OK now it all makes sense, or a little more. You are right i think in 1984 there was not central locking. On mine someone installed the system afterwards, there are the cylinders in the door screws in not by factory i removed all that. When they did that i guess they had to replace the driver door handle with one for central locking. but oddly there was no sensor hooked up to the handle. In the passenger side i have one like Ivan shows in the picture, with not central locking as the 1984 should have.

But now are the locking cylinders different from the non central handles to the central locking handles? The one i got fits on my passenger side but is too short for the driver side. I guess i have to either buy a new non central handle or a cylinder that fits, which i would prefer.

Any dealer. or locksmith familiar with German cars, will be able to recreate your key.
Bring them the finished assembly before you install it, and they can read the key-code from the stamped numbers on the 10 flags in the cylinder.
