Best Spark Plug wires
What are the best wires to run with MSD coil and 6AL box on a 2.7 RS spec. Motor? I'm thinking of trying the Magnecore racing competition wires. Pelican sells for 300.00. Expensive. Has anyone used these? Would like some input before buying.

I found a really nice set of braided ignition wires for my SC for $87, not on Pelican parts but easy to google...been very happy with my purchase and they look just like original.
|
I have Clewett wires on my 87 and they are wonderful.

+1 on the Clewett wires (on my '80 twin plug turbo)

Am running Magnecore wires on my 2.7 but mostly stock ignition. Good build quality and no issues.

Another + 1 for Clewett

get the clewett.
I would have him make a set with the numbers on both ends. it makes things easier. I also had him make a special coil wire so I could flip the coil over |
ive had both clewett & magnecore sets on different cars and they are both comparable to one another. my only suggestion would be is to get black. I had a red magnecore set and they were susceptible to staining if you touched them with any amount of oil or grease on your mitts. they would clean up with some effort, but was a pain all in all.
agreed with the convenience the clewetts provide with the number embossed on them. |
Mangacore on my 3.2 very good wires.
Yea, I do have the red wires, and yea, they show dirt somewhat. They do clean up good, but it does require some effort. |
Magnacore. Very easy to put on and off the plugs. Never break when taking them off like the stock units. Get the biggest ones. They look and preform the best.

Are those plug wires specifically needed for the MSD box or can a 2.7 with MSD be run with stainless braided Beru wires too?
I don't mean to hijack the thread but it seems you can spend a lot of money on plug wires and I appreciate understanding when and why you should go for the most expensive option. |
I used Magnecore replacements for the tired originals on my 944, and they worked fine. The fatter wires can be a little awkward with cable management designed for thinner...
Anecdotally, on a 2V EFI Ducati, even new factory HT leads are marginal (at best) with Iridium plugs gapped at 35 thou; they break down, arc out/misfire - Magnecore leads keep the hotter spark where it should be. |
I've used Magnecore wires on a bunch of different cars for years. The ones on my Carrera are coming up on 20 years old. They are a "no drama, they just work" solution.
Only failure was on a pickup where the exhaust gasket blew out and it roasted the boot. Turns out they sell the boots separately and the wires are still good. |

I have my coil where the CD box was as MSD is under my seat. Clewett just made the coil wire to my requested length. |
you wont notice the difference as long as they work as designed.
go with whats cheaper |
