My car has RS door cards. The handles attach to the doors by drilling a 10mm hole and installing a collapsing anchor into which an M5 screw threads in. One of my anchors fell out, and I'm trying to replace it.
I can't seem to find one of these anywhere...The hole is too big to fit a rivnut while still using a screw that is close to M5 in size...Does anyone know what these things are even called? Searching numerous variations of "sheetmetal collapsing threaded insert" turn up no easily-purchasable product in the US... ![]() |

The one in your pic is called a jack nut. Dunno who that particular manufacturer is though. A plusnut is similar.

Something similar happened to mine also. They did not come out like yours has. Mine started to spin so you could not tighten the screw. I ended up tack welding them in. Haven’t worried about them since.

I replaced my RS door cards with new ones and refused to use those things. I bought a rivnut puller and some rivnuts. Very solid.

Yeah, they are not a great fastener...The one that's still there is spinning. It's maddening. Not much I can do with a 10mm hole besides put them back in and tack 'em...

Try here for 5mm Rivnuts priced for each, (not 100 min.)

Unfortunately, there is already a 10mm hole that I need to use, and I lack the skill to weld it closed...

I have welded a nut to a small piece of sheet metal with a hole in it. That can then be riveted into the door panel.

This is a low torque application - how about filling or installing with JB weld?

I bought some janky jack nuts on eBay as part of my first attempt...They just twisted in place—they didn't spin, the collapsable structure simply collapsed into a twist instead of pulling flush.
I wound up using an M6 threaded insert (Rivnut) as its outer diameter was .86mm...I thought it would be too small, but it's already more solid in place than the "good" fastener still installed... |

You underestimate a passenger's propensity to slam a door...
