Does This Decal Location Look Like Originally Placed?
I recently bought a 1985 M491 that has this decal on the glove compartment. The car has documented 71k miles and is in excellent condition. It seems odd to me that this decal is located there as opposed to maybe the top side of the sun visor or elsewhere. I have owned several Porsches over the years but never a new one. A few questions.
Could this really be correct? Has anyone else experienced this? If so can you verify with a picture? Could the original dealer have installed? If so, was it meant to be removed once read? I'm ready to take it off but........ http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1580779224.jpg |
No - "928...." = for a 928

PCA7GGR good point! Thanks, Duh :)
This decal, I can tell, has been there a very long time from the looks of it, and the guy I bought the car from had decided to leave it there for the 6 years he owned it. I would love to know why someone would stick it there but I am sure I never will. |
Hi Lucky9146- Based on the 743km '86 Silverstone sale, it does look correct. Link and image below...

FWIW- the paint code sticker on the inner passenger side fender(frunk) for 3.2's also begin with a 928 part number code. There are a few additional stickers in the 84-86 911 parts catalog that have the 928 designation as their first three digits (Including oddly, the trailering coupling sticker 928 006 901..if you ever bought the factory trailer hitch!) Hope this helps! 911 Cooking- The compound butter made the difference. https://youtu.be/FvXBR50rH9E |
Hey Missed Approach excellent work and a great eye! Thank You for weighing in.
Wow you nailed it and on a super low mileage car at that. And here I had the heat gun plugged in ready to go. I would say that puts it to bed for me. I bet most people remove them as they do seem unsightly but now I will leave it prominently displayed. I now have what I would consider documentation that supports it being there thanks to you. Cheers |
well the sticker might be on the correct place but..the peeps in Porsche were sleeping a little to long. The sticker should have been presented on porsche 911 SC where when you step on the throttle and start you will blow up the air box .No problem on 911 Carrera when you step on the throttle- but it does not help either;-)

Leaving it in place is the right thing to do. I still have my "Unleaded Fuel Only" sticker on my fuel gauge as well as the fill cover.
|
Both unleaded fuel stickers still in tact here. :)
Thanks guys for all the help and comments. |
I worked on a one owner 82 911SC that had that sticker on the windshield (928 part# also). You can see the backside of it in this picture on the driver's side just above the windshield wiper.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1580844508.jpg Just for fun, here's what I started with 2 months earlier. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1580844575.jpg |

thx Ivan, will do :)

There are several parts on a 911 with 928 part numbers.
|
and 951 and 933 and 914 and...
All depends on how they were originally catalogued in the factory |
Don't be surprised if you remove it and see that the color is darker than the rest of the faded glove box door. You'll be looking at that color mis-match and wondering why you removed it in the first place.

You may have an older account but your first post is from today and ALL of you six posts are advertising your woodpecker site. Since our host also sells decals, it is considered bad form to peddle your merchandise here without permission. |
Point taken! But no offence was meant.
However I see many Car Bone posts on here also advertising stickers & labels. |
