Vacume Leaks FOUND!
Found this in the closet. It’s a pump for air mattresses and beach toys. Notice the 2 PSI output and the many adapters included.
![]() Used the POV port. Put on the largest adapter and cut a piece of styrofoam to fill the rest of the hole then weighted the whole thing down with bags weights used for scuba divers. Maybe not completely air tight but it worked very well for this. I sprayed a soap and water mix on a few suspect areas and flipped the switch. ![]() Bubbles everywhere. All six injector ports leaking badly: ![]() Also found two others. A tiny crack in a seam in the air box directly here: ![]() And this leak in the power brake vacume line fitting: ![]() Most of the leakage by far was from the injectors. Not happy to have leaks but happy to finally know where they are. Did not even bother to try and find any behind (in front?) of the engine yet. Plenty to work on here. Thanks for all who came up with the soap bubble test. Worked perfectly. |

Tomorrow I will try to change as many of the injector sleeves and seals as I can get to. Even if I an just do 4 of the 6 it should be a big improvement. At some point my plan is to drop the engine but I will do this project first and see how much things are improved. Also purchased a Gunson Gastester on eBay that arrive today. After I get as many of the injectors sealed as I can tomorrow I will use the GG to set the mixture properly. |

vac-leaks at the air box is not so good. seal.
vac-leaks at the injectors is not crutial. nontheless, change the O-seals: a) seal on injector b) seal on injector socket due to heat cycles and age they harden, get rock hard and seal no more. to avoid seal debrits to fall inside the cylinder I pulled the intakes and pulled the injectors on a bench. this also will allow you to set new seals at the foot of the intakes. ![]()

I echo Flojo
Pulling the injector sleeves in situ is a recipe for disaster (ask me how i know!) they can be very brittle and break up unless you have a correct tool (if one is even available any more). If you remove intakes, then you can push them out (dont forget the small tab on top has to be pushed out of the way) good luck |

Nice one. I have a similar pump. I´ll try the same. I suspect a few smaller leaks, which I havent been able to find yet.
My injectors was leaking and I pulled my sleeves without removing the intakes. I made a tool, which worked beautifully. I split a long bolt, lengthwise and made a narrow blade to tap in between the two halves to expand them. Got plenty of grip to pull them out, without cracking them. ![]() ![]()
