Engine skirt position question
About to fit my engine. I have a new skirt. Its a dual lip. One on the bottom on the tin and one on top. All on top or all on the bottom. The old was near non existing so its no referrance.
Thanks Lyndon ![]() ![]() Last edited by Lyndon302; 02-07-2020 at 02:32 PM.. |

The way it’s supposed to work is that the top lip goes above, and the bottom lip goes below. You kind of sandwich the tin between the lips. It’s not super hard to do when the rubber is fresh; use a stiff plastic body repair tool or large screw driver, and use some silicone lube or even dish soap. You have to work from underneath as well as inside the engine compartment. Good luck.

I am about to reinstall my motor and have a similar question.
Do you kind of try to get it in position as you are raising the motor or do you get the motor in position and then try to maneuver the lip of the seal around the tins? |

I'd suggest getting the motor nearly there then getting the rubber aligned. It's much easier to get it started that way and you don't have to worry about tearing it trying to "peel" one of the sides over the tin.
Definitely better to get the transmission side started before getting the engine up.
