HELP! Who knows this car???

Hello everybody & greetings from Southern Germany

I have a question concerning a tire/wheel combo. I found the picture below somewhere here on the forum and maybe some of you guys know the owner or even the wheel/tire specs.

To me it looks like some widened 15“ Cookies with some Toyo’s R888. I would be interested to know what tire size exactly are mounted, as I want to run the same setup on my 1982 SC Backdate. Currently running 7“ & 9“x 16“ Fuchs, but would like to change to 15“.

Thank you for your help and sorry for the unusual question
Marc

Widened cookies. The ATS cookie cutters came in 15x6 and 15x7 only. This car has been discussed before but I don't think the owner ever joined the conversation.

My guess is 225's in front, 275's in rear as that's what we ran on our racing SC's with 15" wheels before , 245's in front will just fit if you can find them, most likely need all fenders rolled that low. Biggest issue is finding tires in that size for 15" wheels... think with Hoosier we had no choice what to run in front IIRC. Also the 275/35 15's will shorten your gear ratios overall substantially (again, Hoosiers) if that's part of what you are looking for, compare rolling diameters. Bill the gearing/tire/brake Master may pipe in...

Thank you Gary, but I personally don't think that they are that wide, also Toyo doesn't offer this sizes in 15". And from the tire tread visible on the photo, they are R888 for sure. So I guess the car has 235/50 or 225/50 on the rear and 205/50 on the front. I hoped someone knows the car or the owner see this thread and could confirme it

Of course no TÜV for the widened Cookie Cutters I already bought some 7" & 9"x15" Fuchs. I personally don't like the look of the Campagnolo wheels on a 911, but they look great on a DeTomaso

I've got Toyo 225/235 on 15x7/8 and they don't fill out the rear quarters as nicely as the brown car, so they are probably widened to ~9" or spaced out. Great stance.

I'm going with spacers based on how the tires sits relative to the wheel. 235 on a 9J wheel would have stretch. There is none on this car.

Sure, it's a little rougher around the edges than the brown car. This is about 0.75” lower than euro ride height, no spacer in front, 8mm spacer in rear. No rubs and rides good. A little low in front on steep driveways. There's a big "stance" thread on here somewhere with tons of pictures and wheel/tire/alignment specs if you want to compare set ups.

I think a 15mm spacer out back (instead of 8) and SC/Carrera skirts and you'll sit just like the brown car in the original post.

I had it a little lower with a 15mm in the back and it rubbed slightly, it would probably be okay at the current height. The brown car is very low, check out the way the rear fender lip covers the wheel. I keep thinking about putting the rockers back on, maybe this will motivate me.

Rockers for life. I hate seeing the oil lines. It always feels unfinished to me. (flame suit engaged)
Your car is rad. The rockers are the only thing I'd change.

Thanx Cory, your photos are very helpfull. I like the proportions of the 15“ wheels and the fat sidewalls of the tires. This is the look I want to go.

Is your car a factory SC/Carrera body and do you still run the stock camber angle on the front?

I first saw this wheel/tire combo (225/50-15 front, 235/50-15…rear) on the car below (on BAT) and immediatley loved the way it looked compared to 16“.

Thanks! I've seen great cars both ways, but the front lip with no rockers is a little unbalanced. They sure look good on that brown car.

I saw that red car on BaT too, it's really nice. Mine is factory bodywork but the fenders we're rolled slightly at some point in it's life. I'm running stock strut mounts, -1.3 degrees of camber in front.

There's 15" wheel and tire threads on here that get into how the gearing and torque are affected, as well as available tires. When I went from 16's to 15's I noticed the car felt a little quicker accelerating and the rpm increased a bit when freeway cruising.
