Displaced chain guide...
 

So, my 2.7 was built by a pretty reputable shop here in the NYC area, but when they first opened, years ago. Due to life BS, the car has gotten little use since then. Maybe 3K miles. It's never run right, backfiring through the carbs. I've replace the carbs with PMOs, the ignition system with a MSD and optical pickup, and it's always the same. Then a fuel line split while it was idling one winter in my drive and it caught fire. I was REALLY hard to put out and things got in the left side of the engine. :(

So I'm finally getting to it and pulling it apart.

When I pulled the left cam chain cover off, I found the chain ramp/guide lying in the bottom, ...It is normally mounted on two studs. It's got a bit of a dogeared look, but looks liike it would go back on once cleaned up.


huh?? Not what i was expecting.

The car does have oil fed tensioners.


I know there are lots of engine gurus here, any ideas how that happens? Why? And what to look for and do to make it right going forward?

It takes pressure to get them to snap into place. I would guess that who ever was in there last didn't get seated and it just fell off.

picture will help of the situation..do not reuse the chain rail ..get new one, they are cheap...
