Last question of today as I’ve depleted all my energy now!

I’ve inserted the rear wheel hub into the new FAG rear bearing. However, it’s in too short and, frankly, putting up a fight. Looking at the photo, how close the edge of the bearing should I be aiming to bring it? Should it be right near the edge or a little in is OK? Also, I am using a bearing system to insert this so am at least using the right tools. However, at this point to attempt to continue to force it further in am I left continuing to heat the inside of the bearing and trying again with more force? Challenge being that I can't really see how far it's in due to the various metal plates in front of it with my bearing tools. Anyway, made amazing progress in my first attempt to rebuild the entire arm so can't feel too bad taking a break for a night!

Mine is about 1/16" below the bearing race. Regardless, draw it in until the shoulder of your wheel flange seats on the outer bearing race.

The inner race needs to be supported while pressing in the hub or it will come out and ruin the bearing. If you can slip the shaft through enough to get a nut on it, that will work to pull it in. Big all-thread, 2 nuts and a stack of wide washers works, too.

Thanks both. Yes, John, good point about making sure I don’t pull the race out. I’ll make sure to protect that.

What are the thoughts around whether applying heat still makes sense at this point as I’d effectively be heating both the hub and the bearing around it (unavoidable as they are so close)? |

No heat. Just pull it in.

Thanks John. Won't explain why but I'm now waiting until Thursday to get a 1 1/16" wrench via Amazon! I remember the days where I could just drive 5 minutes down the street to the hardware store..
