How Many Parts in a 1979 911 SC Engine?

Hi All,
For a spring road rally question, does anyone know how many parts are in a Porsche 911 SC engine? If specific, a 1979 Porsche 911 SC engine without air-conditioning and German delivery. I'd further specify to include engine tin and exhaust; everything that would be on a motor that was dropped out of the 911 (excluding transmission).
Thanks in Advance!

Is a distributor one part, or is it many parts? Needle bearing? Is oil a part? ...Ad infinitum...

Good luck with an operational definition of "part," at Pat noted.

"are in", are on, complete? Pretty vague or pretty tricky.

In his original post - he's asking as he wants to use it as a trivia question for a road rally.

Lots and LOTS of parts!

Better line of questioning would be something like; 'How many parts in a Weber 40 IDS carb as used in the 67, '68 911 S' ?

Is this like counting how many parts are in a mechanical watch? Like to show off how many parts are needed to make it work? :)

Grab a copy of PET and start counting. But be prepared for the controversy surrounding parts vs. assemblies e.g. thermostat, chain tensioners, IMS shaft, aar valves, etc., etc.

just tell people that the PET is the final authority on parts vs. assemblies

for fun you could have them compare with the 996/Boxster motor too

I'll be interested to see your final tally...
