Starter/Booster Unit (Instead of Battery) for Firing Up Stored Vehicles
I'd like to eliminate batteries altogether for my stored vehicles, and perhaps, drop one in if I do a longer drive where I'll possibly be cutting the engine (a very rare occasion these days).
1) I have a battery charger that has "ENGINE START" mode (90 second countdown). WILL THIS SUFFICE ? OR 2) Would it be better to simply acquire and use a specifically designed portable starter/booster unit for my periodic "starting/drive a few blocks to get the juices flowing" needs? Thanks in advance! |
It’s not a good idea to run a car without the battery. The voltage output of the alternator will be too high without the battery to ballast the voltage, and you’ll damage electrical circuits including the alternator itself. A jumper pack would work though.

Either start the car and drive it until it is fully up to operating temperature, or leave it alone. If it is actually stored correctly, leave it that way. |
keep good batteries in them and use a good computerized battery tender on them.
Also get a 12V Automotive Car Battery Tester Digital Vehicle Analyzer on eBay for $35usd or so keep track of your battery. |
