wheel sizes, Carrera 3.2

Please can someone learned please summarise in concise form the official Fuchs wheel sizes that came on the Carrera 3.2 (84-89) vintage.

I have seen quite a variety of Fuchs wheels fitted to these cars. I am of the opinion that my wheels are 6x16 front and 7x16 rear but there are variations on this that are possible (for instance, I have seen Carreras with 7x16 front and what look like 8" (16s?) rear.

Please can someone give a summary

Cheers,

RG5.

RG5,

You could get either 7x15 and 8x15 or 6x16 and 7x16 Fuchs. Cast "phone dials" were also used from '84-'86. If you see a 7x16 on the front or an 8x16 on the rear, it's been added by an owner.

JR is correct. The window sticker from my '88 shows 7X15 and 8X15 as the standard wheels, and the 6X16 and 7X16 it came with as optional. A lot of guys move the 7X16s to the front and get 8X16s for the rear. Another popular combination is to mount 8X16 944 rims on the front and 9X16 911 Turbo rims on the rear.

So what car did the 8x16" rim come off? I thought this was the read tyre off the 930?

Also how does 8x16 "944" rims compare to other 8x16 Fuchs (or are all these 8x16 off a 944?

Go the SW chip (by the way - ive had one for a few months now)

there are 2 different 8x16s....one originally came on the rear of a 930....the other is a different offset that was available on a 944....you can tell the difference by looking at the lug nut area....if the lugs are recessed on an 8x16 it came off a 944 and can be used on the front of a Carrera....I am not sure of the part number differences stamped on the back side of the wheel.

The 911 wheel will have a part number starting with 911 and the 944 wheel will have a part number starting with 951.

Actually I believe the 8x16's came one year only on the rear of the 89 911 carrera 3.2. ( not the 89 964 c4 which had cast d 90 wheels).

True - and the earlier Turbos - later turbos (1986 and on-I believe) came with the 9's

Jeremy, what size tire (on front) do you run and did /do you have any issues with rubbing the fenders?

225/50/16's AVS Sports (Yokohama) and Toyo RA1's (Track) 245/16 rears.

Fenders are rolled - a little negative camber - and closer to US ride height than Euro.

I think you guys are right- I vaguely seem to recall the 89's got eights on the rear. It's a ***** getting old.

For my .02 cents Jeremy has the best set up you can buy with the 8's and 9's unless you're going to something like custom 17 inch Fuchs. Fuchs always just "look" right on impact bumper cars to me.

Jeremy is right. Mine came with 6's in front and 8's in the rears.

Have 951 8's that fit 225s in the front with some negative camber and slightly rolled fenders.

Rear stock 8's fit 245/45s without rolling and with small spacers.
