1971 911 with 72 fender

hello boys
has anyone seen 1971 911S with this kind of ( welded door for oil )1972 fender?
Is it possible that this 1971 was a late 71 ??

thanx
Ivan

After all these years, anything is possible. May have been previous accident repair as well.

hi no accident reported ..What is strange on this 911 is the numbers
Do you know if on early models of 911 the number behind the knee pads is different then the vin number it self??
look...here is the trunk vin number..it is not between the Porsche stars but snow flakes star

then we have this number on the alu plate --seems homemade from what i saw in other plates..

and finally the knee number

Anything is possible on these old cars, but bondo over a '72 oil door, is probably not factory.

I have seen cars with the stars on the VIN pictured here, thought they were factory, maybe some old time gurus have insight.

The VIN plates were all hand stamped and the number under the dash can only be interpreted by someone with access to factory files.

I would take a mirror and look under the VIN stamping in the trunk looking for signs of welding or tampering.

Is the VIN sticker still in the door jamb?

There are no records kept of accidents from before something like '85.

I read the aluminum rear deck was an option. Cool, but probably only saved a pound or two.

Wouldn't be the first time somebody turned a normal 911 into an S to maximize a sale price. Smells fishy to me.

Post some shots of the motor, including the #s there.

Looks like it has an original gas heater, interesting.

I'm sure you know that the factory will issue a certificate of authenticity, (or whatever they call it now), which may give you a clue to its originality.

yes the certificate he has................ the engine number actually came to 911S 1970 not 71 ..there is more ....the cover is for the A/C system he has in it..also an option back then-
engine...had to cut off the seller licence plate, all known to us...

what bugs me a lot is that the car was sold overseas and the transmission does not even has the trany bar with mounts...unreal??The guy told me the front of the nose of the trany actually had fallen off with the transport inside the container and bended the engine mounts bar....I wonder how, if the nose cone shifter rod would be sitting inside the tunnel...
here is the bottom pick

Does it have the original fuel injection? Can you post a shot of the engine number? I'm not suggesting it really isn't an S motor, but worth confirming.

Surprising amount of rust for a California car. Hard to believe an S would have been abandoned, as this car appears to have been.

FWIW, you could contact the California DMV and pay to have a title search done. It may have been imported into CA recently.

Looks like a real project.

I have check the engine numbers , all is correct to 911S 1970 ..but the presentation is awful..i`d say..i wonder if i run the carfax what would come out?
he was told that the engine is not to the year, not surprise there..but it was put in in a hurry ..

The thing I find interesting about these long hoods is, beside the motor, the only difference in models is the fifth digit in the vin, options aside. People see S and go crazy.

The stamped number under the radio should match the hand written number under the dash, left side. I’ve always been told that it’s the sequence number. There should also be a numbered plate under the sealant under the driver feet area.
