Using back-nut spanner to remove Boge suspension shocks on torsion-bar 911

Not sure anyone has done it in this way before or I just missed the old post.

I tried the pipe-wrench method, it didn't work, plus it damaged the shock cover.

Then I found there is a back-nut spanner sitting in my plumbing stuff, and it just fit the Boge shock top cover perfectly. It doesn't have the size on it but I think it's 27mm-32mm (standard UK plumbing size).

Sacrificed a socket to make an impact drive connector, a 10mm bolt + nut, job done.

BTW, mine is 3.2 Carrera, older 911 may need a smaller spanner?

The pipe wrench worked perfectly for removing mine a few weeks ago and I used a chisel and hammer to tap on the new ones that came with my bilstein inserts.

Good idea. I've used a strap wrench several times, it doesn't mar up the metal but probably wouldn't be enough if the cap is rusted on.
