clutch confusion

Car is a 79 SC

Trying to put this thing back together after full disassembly.
I am just not getting the big picture on the clutch spring mechanism and its interaction with the clutch cable.

Here is how I have it installed:



My symptoms are this. After hooking the clutch cable end onto the area near the horseshoe spring my clutch pedal still is in the fully depressed position. If I pull it back out it just springs back to the floor. When I actuate the clutch pedal fore and aft nothing is moving in the area at the end of the clutch cable near the horseshoe spring.

My buddy sent me this sample picture below:

I can see that they are not similar but the direction of the spring does seem correct. Maybe I pout it on backwards though. If I forced the arm towards the rear of the car it seems it would rotate so they both look the same.

First time doing anything like this. I assume I have overlooked something that will become obvious once it is pointed out. Appreciate some of you experienced pelicans giving me some suggestions please!

Yes. wear gloves and keep fingers away from the omega spring, and push the lever toward the back of the car, then re-set the splined clutch release lever so it is close to the helper lever. Spec is 1.2mm, then use the set screw to shore it up to 1mm.

When I am pushing the lever should the clutch cable be attached? What should the position on the clutch pedal be? It is on the floor now, would I need to brace it in the non depressed position?

I did it with the clutch cable connected at the lever but out of the slot on the transaxle where the adjustment nuts go.

I also used a block of wood to hold the pedal up off of the floor, in its normal position.

Once I had the omega spring in the correct position, I put the hard portion of the cable back into the transaxle, and tightened it up to where I had a photo taken of it before disassembly, readjusted the clutch lever and set screw, then let 'er rip.

What they said and to reiterate, #1 the snail spring back against the stop, #2 the short splined lever positioned as close to the set screw as the splines will allow to get your 1mm gap, #3 adjust cable with no preload. With new cable, may have to readjust after everything seats.

Another rookie first timer question. How do you ensure the cable has no preload prior to adjustment?
