Cam carrier nut torque order please
Hey all, trying to get this engine together but cannot locate my notes showing order for these. Anyone share a pic plz? Thanks

Never thought much about it, but the middle one first and criss-cross the others, one head at a time is what i do. I assemble the heads to the towers and install the cams and all the rockers and install the unit onto the cylinders, keyways @ 12 o'clock, engine @ TDC #1. YMMV.

No. It’s not. Don’t ask random strangers about critical specs you can personally confirm. While Mr. Walker’s opinions are beyond reproach, suggest more self-reliance when it comes down to specific specs like this (the internet is one source, with caveats, so are published manuals). Buy (or read) Wayne's book. He bankrolls this website, so it goes to a good cause. As a guy used to old VW engines, where even the cheesiest manual showed a torqueing pattern for the head studs, I was surprised that the Porsche shop manual didn't have a diagram showing a preferred order for tightening head nuts or cam carrier nuts. Instead, it uses adjectives like "tighten evenly."
I think Anderson included a diagram for one of these in his manual, but Wayne's 911 engine rebuilding book has diagrams for both. It may not be critical that these are followed to the letter (or number), but it makes assembly a lot easier to follow a pattern in a diagram than to ponder how to wing it. |

I can see that sequence if the heads are already torqued to the cylinders, but it wouldn't matter if you assemble the towers, heads, cams and rockers on the bench. So much easier to assemble the unit and install in one lump.

Also pay attention to the clarifications described in attachments with Dempsey's book (or incorporated in later printings). Many are spec corrections/revisions. I would cross check with factory specs (internet) and other spec book publications.
