Weber Nitrophyl Floats

Does anybody have any experience with Nitrophyl floats in their Weber carbs ?
I have a race car that runs on pump fuel and have found that all 4 of my brass floats are mangled, obviously leading to poor and erratic running which has been getting worse over time.
Nobody has cleaned out any of the jets/passages with compressed air in at least the last year and so I am really puzzled as to what might have caused this.
Just wondering if I would not be better off using Nitrophyl floats to prevent this happening again?

Rob

Probably happened the last time compressed air was used. 4lb fuel pressure didn't do it.

Is it possible that the initial damage was done by blowing with compressed air and then it has got worse over time? My poor running / starting issues have been getting progressively worse but particularly over the last 2 months and if the damage was done by compressed air, it would have been a year ago at the earliest.
Would I be best off replacing with new brass floats as opposed to the nitrophyl ones, if I can find them?

Seen that a lot. Yours probably imploded and didn't drag on the sides of the float bowl, so it wasn't so noticable. Redline Weber has new floats. 41015.007. Usually caused by blowing out the idle jet passages with a rubber tipped airgun tight against the hole. If you have to do that, hold the airgun a couple of inches away and do short bursts.

Thought I would post these pictures now that I have removed the carbs from the car.

Thanks John

Any downside to using the nitrophyl ones? Maybe this would not happen with them?

Never tried them, but I recall a few vw carbs way back that had them and found some that didn't float too well. Maybe the technology improved.
