SC heater blower motor wire problem 83 SC
Heat died this morning. Took a look and one of the wires had broken at the spade connection due to corrosion I never noticed because of electrical tape hiding the issue
I pulled the motor out and need to get it reconnected to the car Problem- I can’t just put new spade connectors on the wires coming out of motor because the length of wires I’m left with is too short to reach the wires coming from engine bay I need to splice in some wires to get more length I’m terrible with anything electric. My question is can I just solder some hook up wire that I have to give me the length I need? Unfortunately I bought this wire 10 years ago so I’m not sure what gauge etc it is or if it is appropriate for this job. The only markings on the spool are below If this wire doesn’t look like the appropriate wire, what should I get? Also, the wires coming from motor are very brittle. Not even sure I can strip insulation without damaging or running out of wire to work with Can the blower motor be easily rewired somehow? ![]() ![]()

After thinking about this, I won’t be able to solder because the wire is too thick to twist
So if I use some spade connectors to build wire extensions 6 inches long or so, is the wires above ok to use or what is recommended ? Thanks

Just did spade connectors on his yesterday when I had the motor out for FI lines and injectors. I was absolutely frustrated trying to get the connections made in the odd connector.
I clipped the motor spades as close as possible and stripped a bit of insulation very carefully and then attached and crimped new female spades. Did the same with male spades on the engine bay wires. I used covered spades which slip inside each other and are thus insulated. Still a very tight situation with wire lengths. In retrospect, it would have eased the stripping effort if I had razor bladed the insulation axially before slipping it off. Plan to look for some yellow wire online today in either 14 or 12 gage primary wire and use some brown that I already have and lengthen the engine bay wires by about 6", solder and heat shrink over the joint and clip them back together. I think your method will work just as well without the headache of soldering but I would look for known wire gauge. Looks like Home Depot, McMaster Carr and Grainger all carry it. Sure miss Radio Shack for convenience.

A properly soldered joint will far outlast any other connection. Don’t need to twist wires to solder
You can simply lay wires one on top of the other solder and then shrink wrap. |

Well last night I was able to conclude that 12 gauge wire is correct and that’s what I have (found label off spool on my work bench). Unfortunately mine is red. I then made some 5 inch length pieces to bridge the gap between the blower wires and engine bay wires. I used mail and female 12 gauge (yellow) connectors. I tinned the wire tips first and once inside the connectors left wire tips sticking out a little and soldered wire to connectors along with crimping. Haven’t reinstalled motor yet cause it’s cold out. Hopefully this solves my issue and motor isn’t blown. I had one catch fire before. They only last so long and the one I have is a replacement from a fellow pelican but still 40 years old almost

Was gonna do this but I don’t have a shrink gun thing. I’ve told myself a million times I need to invest in one and then forget until times like this.

Shrink tube and a lighter work well together. Takes up less toolbox space as well.
Just ordered some wire from McMaster Carr to build my extension. Got some fresh spades at Autozone to avoid reusing those I crimped yesterday.
