915 Rebuild - Reassembly & Gear Offset

I'm doing a rebuild of the 915 in my '85 Carrera project - new synchros/dog rings/sliders as well as a 1 piece retainer plate. So far everything has gone well and I've just test dropped in the gear cluster into the transmission case. I've noticed that gear sets 1, 2, and 3 show a small amount of axial misalignment - with the worst offender bearing 1st gear. Is this typical?

What's interesting is that 4th gear seems well aligned, and the 2nd and 3rd sets are offset in the opposite direction of 1st. See pics below:

Any feedback would be appreciated!

Hmm, not really sure. Did you get any of the spacers mixed up / interchanged?

Mine was the same. Hard to see, but it's the same.

There needs to be some offset so the gear teeth don't hit the dog teeth.

If you look closely at the small first gear it looks like the wear pattern is the same as the current placement of the teeth.

A comparison pic - just what I was looking for! Thank you.

I, too, noticed the contact pattern matches up with the current stack. Everything spins smoothly - so I can only imagine that this correct.
