964 Heat exchanger differences..

I am putting a manual motor in my tip 96 and the heat exchangers are different, at least the drivers side is. The TIP exchanger has an additional heat shield under the trans. I am thinking I would heat tape the crossover pipe to replace that shield. Anyone know of any other difference it would make, or if this would be a suitable workaround? Mild climate, likely not more than a 1K miles a year will be going on it.
