Key Questions
Lots of time to spend with my 83SC Cab these day. When this whole Covid thing is over my car should be in pretty great shape.
Had my head buried in the drivers side footwell last week pulling the pedal cluster for a do over. I noticed for the first time the frunk hood release has a keyed lock on it. Owners Manual only refers to the Targa having a lockable trunk release but I guess they forgot to change that. My ignition key will lock my glove box but does not fit the hood release slot. It goes about half way in but does not rotate the lock. Was there a separate, possibly shorter key for this?. If so are there blanks available? Also, while looking up key info in the owners manual it says something about replacing the key light battery. Neither of my keys has a light in it. They both say “Porsche” on them and look pretty old so I assumed they were original. Does this mean they are not original? Are blanks with the light feature available? I did not see them on PP. There is no separate key. The ignition, door, g.box, and trunk lock are all the same. Someone might have rekeyed all the locks and left this one OR they replaced the handle with a different one. I would try again.

Obviously my reading comprehension skills have declined. I skimmed right over those because I assumed it would look something like my original keys but these look totally different. Thanks

Opened the hood again and key still works. Not sure if closing the hood had any effect but in any case working now. My guess is that’s the first time anyone has put a key in there in probably 20 years. Thanks |
In 1983 did everyone get keys with lights in them or was this an optional thing?
Why are some keys red? |
