Project Elephant - Rgruppe Monterey or bust!

My '73 project car has been progressing slowly. I've made some good progress, but the bottom line is I just haven't spent enough time working on it.

Now the track season has arrived and the finished car hasn't.

I work well under pressure, so I've decided to set a ridiculous goal and then put the whole project on public display to provide a little extra motivation.

The goal:

Drive the car in a presentable state to the Rgruppe Monterey north meets south event, May 2-4.

That's 23 days to go from this tub:

to this target:

Seems impossible and I am probably setting up for failure, but I'm going to give it a try.

I'll be posting regular countdown updates on this page:

http://www.elephantracing.com/project/babbar/projectmonterey.htm

You'll excuse me, I need to get to work!

GO FOR IT! If the rust has been taken out I wouldn't think it'll be too bad working all day

Building an ST replica or just creating the paint scheme? Either way, good luck. Remember the assembly is easy, the paintwork is time cosuming. You have lots of us for motivation.

Paint scheme only. The rear flares are RS and already on. The front will be narrow.

I wish I lived in San Jose. I would bring my car to your shop/garage, strip it out and we could start an (re)assembly line.

Good luck! I can't wait to see the progress.

I like the paint scheme choice. I am thinking of doing my car red with black bumpers. The rocker panels are already black rockgaurd.

i will personally bless it

Chuck,

it was good to see last Saturday, maybe that sneak preview of the newsletter got you pumped up. i hope so because it would sure make for a nice story in the next newsletter about this valiant effort of yours.

Let me assure you that when you do get it done and bring it to Monterey. I will personally put an R Gruppe decal in it for you.

Hey Chuck: You have the same goals as I do. Get the car ready for the RGruppe meeting! If anything, that sort of mission statement gets you off your a**. Since you saw my car, I've installed the the right rear flare and so I'm about a week or two away from painting. I need to drop by soon to return the thermostat and so I can "verify" progress on your car.

Wow! Volunteers. I didn't expect that.

I don't think a group session could be done with any efficiency, but if any of you guys are serious give me a call when you are up for it and we can schedule something individually.

I feel like Tom Sawyer, next project is to white wash the fence in my backyard. It's fun, really.

Cris, you're on. I guess I better get this done!

Peter, you are right about that. I could have done a quick warm over of the car and had something fast. I didn't really plan on stripping it to a tub, but one thing led to another....

I got about 10 hours in today. Good progress, will update later.
