Torsion bar splines and angle
Hey so I’m installing my new torsion bars. New 28mm sway away for the rear. Since I was in a situation where my torsion bar broke and anyway I’m changing to a new size - I couldn’t mark the angle of my spring plate. So I used the calculator on elephant racing and it says for my 86 Carrera that the spring plate needs to be at 25.8 degrees to be at euro height. Thing is. If I move to the closest spline - I’m at either 21. Something. If I move one spline up then I go up to 28 degrees. What’s the trick?

Two different spline tooth counts on inner vs outer spline. Using them in tandem allow for a 0.8 deg difference. For example, shifting the inner spline "back" 1 tooth and the outer spline "forward" 1 tooth would allow for a 0.8 deg change in spring plate angle.

Make sure you center the adjusters on the spring plates before you set the angle. That way you have more margin for error if it ends up riding too high or low.
I be found that ER angle calculator tends to leave them a bit high. So maybe take a degree or two off the recommendation. I also set the driver side 1 degree higher to compensate for driver weight. Usually gets it real close on the corner weights.

I had this trouble as well, it’s very confusing given there are a different number of splines on each side of the bar. I called Chuck at Elephant (good dude). He laughed when I told him how I was turning the bars one spline at a time. He said, “Just take it out, spin it, then try to see how close you are.” Got close enough on that next try that the adjustable spring plates handled any further play.

Yep. I figured it out. Thanks y’all. I got it to 25.5 which is close enough. Though now given the post above I’m wondering if I should have gone to 24.5

If you set them with the adjusters in the middle, you should have enough adjustment to lower it to where you want.

After you make the height adjustment drive the car for at least 50 miles. A bumpy road and up and down driveway aprons so the rubber bushings settle at the new angle.
25.5 in after that will settle in around 25, |
