Suggestions on putting body on rollers?

I'm curious if there is something out there that I could mount my G-body to a set of cheap rollers?

I'd like to completely dismantle the suspension, and then put the car up on a flatbed to take to a body shop.

Does Harbor Freight sell something cheap? (a couple hundred USD)

All I need is something to let me roll the car around and get it rolled up a flatbed ramp on a tow truck.

Thanks!!

I don't have a welder.. or know how to use one...

Would prefer something that just bolts onto the frame... or at the very least, something that can at least allow the body to rest on it properly.

I don't weld either, but my neighbor does. Bought some HD casters, gave him some measurements and where to drill the frame holes and $100 later, had this. It fit perfectly on my BMW and served the exact purpose you're looking for.

After I was done, I sold it for cost to another 2002 guy.

I saw somewhere a version that was done in wood and was plenty sturdy. Possibly a Pelican post.

I had Harbor Freight dollies and leftover wood beam and jerry rig this for the time being.
Not showing in the pictures, but I screwed jacking pucks (for body seams) into the wood and wood into the dolly.

I made mine out of wood too. Super easy. Mine is very simple made out of 4x4s, 2x4s, and Harbor Freight locking casters, and Bolts. Just figure out the dimensions and have Home Depot cut the wood for you, so when you get back home you are just drilling holes and bolting everything together. It is not bolted onto the body, I just used straps.

What were you measuring? I could probably do that, but wasn't sure WHERE under the body I should be setting the body on.. the concern is I don't know where the center of gravity is on the body to measure correctly.

Your 87 will have 4 jacking pad locations under the body at each end of the rockers.

Stoddard makes a car dolly. A little pricy if you have just one project but if you are like me
I will always have some project car . It Will work on anything from the 356 up to a 1989 not 11. Also has tiedown points to secure the dolly if you move it on a trailer to a paint shop.

There's some great ideas in this thread but I like Magnus Walker's solution for simplicity and safety.
(3 contact points means it would be stable on uneven ground but as always be careful.)

I also like this one.

HI Trackrat,

As someone else said my measuring points were simply where the jacking points are, which is simply all four corners of the pan. For stability instead of points that it sits on I used a 4x4 that goes across the body left to right. It is simple just sitting on there and it is very stable even when I take off the straps. My car is still on this dolly for over a year as i work on it.

Good luck!

Rodney

Do you have dimensions available? I like the idea of 4 points of contact. I was thinking that it could make life easier as well when doing the engine re-installation to be able to fit the quickjacks under the crossbars that the casters are bolted to.
