901 flange-driveshaft combination?
Hello to everyone,
I'm rebuilding an old 901 gearbox that came from a yard and both output flanges of the diff. are missing. I have also got two driveshafts with the gearbox, that look quite shot. They are the 4 bolt and 2 dowel kind. I've been looking around (in Spain we have no PelicanParts sadly) I have found that compatible CV are made by various manufacturers: SKF, Mapco and GKN. I know SKF are one of the best in bearings: VKJA 8829 (51€) ![]() GKN seems to be Lobro some how (is this correct?) GKN - 21897 (50€) ![]() Mapco im not sure if they're good quality, they are cheap and look exactly like the original with that brass finish. MAPCO - 16998 (37€) ![]() so it would be an easy fix, buying 4 CV and attaching to the original shaft Here comes the question, as I have to get buy a pair of output flages, and these CV seem to belong to a later model (2.7 or SC ?) should I get the later flanges? Or earlier CV? Thanks for your help! |

Post the number stamped on the bottom of the trans.
If the trans is a '69 up to '71 the 108mm four bolt trans axle flange is what you want. They were used from '69 to ~'75. At '75 1/2 Porsche changed to the 100mm 6 bolt CVs, which I don't think is what you want. Have you seen this thread? 915 differences? This also has some good info. 83 3.0L Engine & Trans Swap to 85 3.2L Engine & Trans - Axle Options Here is what I know. ![]()

Fantastic threads Gordon. Thanks.
I've learned I have to check my diff. and see what kind of splines it has. I was also wondering that a custom made gearbox mount shouldn't be too difficult to build and there it appeared in the thread. This forum is just amazing. The numbers on my gearbox are: 901/13 _ _ 719 4906 The CV's I have do not match the chart Mine are 4 bolt, 108, 32, but tommorrow I'll double check and mesure the axle too I don't know if this complete driveshaft will fit my 1970 2.2t in lenght, I see now there are many different lengths. |

Your 108mm 4 bolt CVs and axles should bolt right up to the 911 2.2T stub axle. The flange swap is what 914 4 to 6 conversion people do all the time, but those flanges are now more money than they used to be. Make sure you don't buy the Sportomatic flange because they are different.
