Tachometer and heat gauge not working on 1966

Was doing some work on the engine on my 66 and let it set for 15 years before I got back on it. Now it’s up and running but tachometer and heat gauge aren’t working. Noticed a broken wire from the heat sending unit , but din’t Know where to attach it on the relays on the firewall. Also din’t Know how the tachometer is wired. Can’t Find a wiring diagram that shows where it picks up the RPM’s. Vin number is 301733, probably built in June or July of 65.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Gary

Are you sure that's not a 1965? What is the paint code on your a-pillar?

66 temp. gauge

I have 66 and heat gauge wire goes into harness from front not relay. I run MSD so ca't help with tach. Will check wire color for gauge. Bob

Color code is 8412 , I hit the wrong key, vin should be 301731, it has Greman gauges so is a build for German market but is titled as a 66 in the USA. I checked numbers and the best I can tell is that it was built in June or July of 65. I have owned it for 42 years. Had a lot of rust when I bought it so I did a lot of body modification work in the 1980’s.
Wide body kit, made a targa type top removable, reinforce the pan and undercarriage.
Solex carbs, engine number is 901822.

Thanks Bob, that helps.

Gauges

Temperture gauge wire is green with black markings which are very hard to see. My wiring chart shows tach signal going to negative post on coil. Bob

Are you sure the paint code isn't 6412? How about some photos?

Also, check the ground connections on the gauges. As I recall, some are in series to other gauges, so you might have one ground pin causing both to stop reading.

Bought the 911 in 1977 with a lot of rust and news paper on the windows and primer with uns. Did some serious DIY modifications on it, most finished in 1985, a weekly driver for 20 years, moved and was in storage for 15 years. Put a new battery and new gas in last year and got it running and used it for our 50th anniversary wedding celebration and driv it in weekends now. I was young when I did all this and wanted a wide body Turbo, Targa or Cabriolet but couldn’t afford one so made 3 in1. Tops can be removed and bolted back. Reinforced the undercarriage and pan. Will try to attach pictures. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1587505043.jpg

Sorry, you are correct about the color code. Couple more pictures after a finished it in the late 80’s. Drive it mostly as a Targa. Took about 30 mins and two men to get the top off. Me and about 10 mins to get Targa top off. Moved the battery to center of trunk a could the store the Targa top in the trunk. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1587507047.jpg

Definitely a '65. I'm sure you are aware of the value of a '65 with a matching numbers engine and Solex's. That would be a costly one to put back to original but you might consider it. Any engine pictures?

Haven’t spent much time researching that, but because there is still a lot of rust, every piece of sheet metal and much of the support structure front and rear would need to be replaced. Even the door frame have been patched up. Engine and transaxle both have leaks. I was planing on getting them overhauled sometime this year.
Not sure what the value is “as is” but I know the envy and transaxle have value. Taking it back to original would be more than I would want to take on. Have seen clean 1965/66 911 for $80k -$250k .
Attached picturesquely of engine. One back in mid 80’s the other today. I have the original breather.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1587589554.jpg
