Rear Sway Bars

I see that an 80 SC rear sway bar does not bolt onto a 77 Targa.

Is there an adapter kit? there is a threaded hole for the 80SC but there a ball joint on the 77 Targa.....

if life was easy....it would be boring!!!

Yes, they can be adapted, but AFAIK, there is no aftermarket kit available. My mechanic fitted a 21mm Carrera rear bar to my '73 by using a silicon bronze valve guide blank to fabricate an extension to the later bar's shackle attachment point to pick up the early droplinks.

He wrote a tech article on it which is not yet online, but may be soon. It was in the Jan. issue of our PCA region newsletter. I may be able to scan it for you in the near future if you are going to go that route.

probably just go with a after market...probably better than stock.

I installed a Weltmeister rear bar in my car with their kit for the brackets that clamp on the torsion bar tubes. No welding. On my '73 the only down side is that I cannot put the mounting points at the bend of the bar due to the placement of the fuel pump on the dirvers side. The install went pretty fast once I understood where the brackets went.

We mounted an 86 bar to my 76 by cutting the mounts in half and welding the 76 pivot top piece on to the 86 bottom piece. It seems to work well.
