either DIY, or pay someone.
a gauge would be good either way. there was a guy around here that was so tuned in, that all he needed to do was absorb the energy from your engine to tell what it needed. he eventually went out of business, and he's been seen at flying saucer gatherings. most seattle guys know, or have heard of him.

That's me! I also offer a 'touchless' valve adjustment service with free corner balancing.

Seriously, I do not use the feeler gauge method, but the most respected folks I know do use feeler gauges. It's faster.

I use a dial indicator and the special P207 (?) tool. It's slower, but I'm more comfortable with it. A search would turn up all my previous descriptions and comments.

Thanks JW,
I was talking to the guy and he said that hw will from time to time drop the motor to get them PERFECT,
and that he NEVER uses the feeler gauge.. because they not accurate enough..
I said hell I just did my own with a feeler gauge and they are great..
but he stuck with his story of do it right or NOT at all.
is that he is a perfectionist?
maybe....
I think the feeler gauge is a good way as long as you take your time and double check yourself before buttoning her back up.. am I wrong?

Eric

1) too loose- noisy valves
2) too tight- burnt valves
