Spark Plug Wire Holders
So my old Beru plug wires were arcing dry, so I picked up a set of Clewetts. Bonus, I've now also bought a new rotor cap as some of the Berus decided to snap off inside of it instead of coming out.
Anyway. The Clewett wires don't come with new holders that will pop into the holes in the fan shroud like the Berus, so how do I get the holders off the old plugs and onto the new ones? I see people mentioning drilling out the holes for the larger insulation, but how do I get them off and on in the first place? I mean is it that obvious to just make a clean slice at each hole and pop the wires out? |

I got a few of these. They work great. https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/CE919118.htm?pn=CE-9191-18&SVSVSI=0804&DID=168284

The factory wire holders come in two halves - one clips into the other. I used the tips of pliers to gently pop them out - I think each one has 3 or 4 attachment points. I used a drill bit to widen the hole large enough for the Clewett wires to fit.

There is a latch on opposite ends of the holder; each latch should be pried up a bit. Then, stick a small screw driver along the seam of where the two halves meet, in the center, and pry the two halves apart. No screws or drilling necessary. To reuse, put cables into the holder, align the halves, and gently press together. The Beru cables are a slightly smaller diameter than Clewett, so many have enlarged the holders where the cables go by drilling them out slightly (as Paul outlines above).

That doesn't sound like mine at all. The ones one mine are a solid piece of rubber with three holes along with a protrusion to jam into the fan shroud. Seen here: https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/90160959100.htm?pn=901-609-591-00-OEM&SVSVSI=0798&DID=16963
I really don't know how I would go about taking these off and reusing them aside from cutting slits through the rubber with a razor. Edit: I assume they switched to a different style with the 3.2? The 3.0 holders are solid and put on the wires prior to the connectors it seems. Edit the second: Well for posterity's sake I just slit the holders open along the top, once for each cable, and pulled the old ones out. The Clewett ones don't quite fit but that was to be expected. I'll put a zip tie around to keep them from popping out and call it a day. Last edited by David Inc.; 04-21-2020 at 11:19 AM.. |

Yes, sorry, I didn't notice your vehicle signature, and the SC and earlier were different. I was speaking above about the Carrera separators.
http://c767170.r70.cf2.rackcdn.com/G91160959100.jpg Yours looks like a single piece of molded rubber, so you may have to cut them off, then take the ends off the wires and thread them through the new holders (with some silicone lube). That's probably why they changed to the plastic, two-piece version for the 3.2...

Down the line if it bothers you enough, you can pick up a few of those Clewett wire holders the Pedro '84 Coupe linked and some pass-thru bolts and nuts to secure them down. $1.84 each ain't a bad deal.
