901 gearbox + 2.7 cis engine
Is this easy to do are they compatable ?
Has anyone done it ? |
I assume you are talking about the 1969 and back 901 transmission with the 215mm clutch which bolts up if you use the early flywheel for the 69 and back trans. Mine bolted up, I just have to figure out the other problems.
The 70-71 901 trans uses a special 225mm clutch that is expensive but should work too, but no first hand experience. Rich |
I have a 2.7 with a 901 on my racecar. Just bolts right up. Are you replacing the motor? or the transmission? Are you upgrading from a Sporto? You may need the 215mm or 225mm clutch stuff depending on the year of tranny.
Also you will need all the the clutch cable hardware since I think you are upgrading a sportomatic. You can buy a complete pedal cluster with bronze bushings installed from Parts Heaven for around $90.00 (well worth it). One note: make sure you have full travel on the clutch fork. I had to rig a spring to pull the clutch fork all the way back so the throwout bearing would not "blow up". The first time the bearing was not getting fully disengaged and the bearing blew my first race. Bearings do not like going 7500 RPM :) |
Yes, I have this on my 914 right now...

thanks guy's
Its just that I have come a across a cheap 901 transmission and I thought that I might keep it as a spare. My sporto is fine mechanically(I am about to replace the servo vacuum unit). I am just a Hoarder and I like collecting things. If I do at some stage in the future get sick of the sporto and I think about converting it would be good to have. I think it was from a 1971 model 911. |
