Thumbs up Revamping a Turbo Porsche 964: Widebody, Interior Overhaul, Suspension + More!

Hi Guys,

I’ve been a fan of Air Cooled 911’s since I bought a ’66 911 in 2008, and been a Pelican fan since I tried to get the engine running the first time and needed help from old forum posts. A huge shout out to all the helpful Pelican members, and this awesome community!

I wanted to share my latest build project with all of you. I’m really excited about it, and think it has potential to be a very fun and wild looking “GT2 Inspired” build.

In late 2014, I picked up my Porsche 964 from a fellow Pelican member. The car came with two 3.6 motors strapped to pallets. One was a factory (stock motor), and one was built by Protomotive several years earlier with low compression pistons, and a single turbo conversion kit. Since I love to tinker with these things and generally build hot rod and outlaw style cars, I went with the turbo motor as the choice for reinstallation.

Here’s a picture of the car when I first got it, and here’s a shot of “Rev 1” of the car.

Shortly after, we started producing content on the @throtl Youtube channel, so we decided to change the color up on the vehicle, and give it a little more aggressive look

Youtube Video about the car in Rev 2:

We are back at it again with Rev 3, and this is the most aggressive transformation the car has seen to date. We are documenting the entire process on our Youtube Channel @throtl, and I’m planning to keep this thread up to date as well as the build progresses!

Here’s our first video, where we fitted up the 964 GT2 style kit we put together from GT-Racing.

We effectively went with the 964 Turbo-width kit, and did exposed hardware, similar to that of the 993 GT2. Huge shout out to Joel from GT Racing for making great parts!

In the next video, we finished preparing the car for paint, and built up a pretty nifty little custom exhaust from some parts we had. It totally transformed the sound of the car!

We've got lots of great stuff in the works for this build. Later today we'll be publishing a new video with the paint reveal and we'll share a bunch of the parts we are going to be installing.

Thanks for reading!

Hey guys, we just got the car back from paint and have gone over some of the modifications we have planned for it in the latest video.

Paintwork was done by SOS Customz up in Oceanside, CA. They did an excellent job. I'd definitely recommend them. Great quality work, and really solid pricing.

Lots of plans laid out for the rest of the build. We are going to redo the entire interior and get into the suspension next.

Thanks guys! RE: the rear tail lights....those were custom made. Honestly, they are pretty old and I am contemplating converting my own newer set. I got these ones second hand a few years back, but I have some good friends in the lighting space that could do a killer job at making these...Trouble is the core lights are so dang expensive these days!

The next video is live!

We install Silvers Neomax Coilovers and some Rennline suspension goodies, and then we get the car out on the road for the first time since the project started!

It drives like a completely different car!
