CIS out - Time to R&R

Guys,

While the engine out at the machine shop, I now have the CIS on the workbench ready for my grubby hands to tear into it.

Which hoses, gaskets, lines, etc are prone to breaking/cracking that should be replaced while this sucker is out?

Also, are there any tests I can perform on any CIS components to test for failure? I have a 12V source if needed.

BTW: I already have the intake runner to CIS boots and intake runner to head gaskets. Pop off valve to be installed also. Anything else, breather hoses, etc?

Replace o-rings sealing cold start valve and air fitting under cold start valve. Replace fuel injector seals (in heads). Replace seal between throttle body and air box, replace o-ring between fuel distributor and fuel mixture unit, replace gasket between fuel mixture unit and air box. Replace all vacuum lines and lines to charcoal cannister (if original these have braided cover). Check molded rubber air hoses for splits and cracks; replace as needed. Check boot between throttle body and fuel mixture unit for splits and cracks; replace as needed. Check plastic bushings on throttle linkage bell crank. Clean interiors of induction runners. Clean air meter plate, bore and arm of fuel miixture unit. Do not take the fuel distributor apart! Replace breather hose from top of engine to oil tank (this is under the CIS but hard to get to when CIS system is in place). Cheers, Jim

Jim, thanks. I'm sure as I tear into it, I'll be able to tell what's suspicious and needs replacing.

Hmm...what about putting it into a bag together with big rock and throwing it into nearest lake? :-)

It's perfect time to go for real EFI! ;) :)

P.S. If you really want to keep it, make sure you plug all gas-hoses as K-Jet has small mechanical tolerances and is very sensitive to dirt.

Beep,

I’d love to go EFI, more HP potential, bigger cams, etc. If you fund the project, I’ll be the guinea pig, do the required research and provide the documentation. Might as well get the 98mm 3.2 P/C's and the carrera crank for a solid 3.4 build. Like I said, if you fund.....;)

Anyway, since you probably won't take me up on my offer, the CIS is staying. Thanks for the tips:)

And here I thought you were looking to boost that 2.5 GMP (Greek Man Power) rating you showed us in the other thread!

I'd recommend having the Bosch Injection Bible on hand or some similar hard information, just for reference.

I dunno, tough decision.

Although more fun, GMP is quite expensive to generate and not as efficient as CIS injection.

Compare gallon Guinness vs. gallon 93-octane Chevron.

Still sticking w/ CIS.

The Bible is in hand thanks to Targa80.
