Wayne's a friggen genius!

I know this is off topic, please forgive me. I was in an arcane area of the Pelican Parts site & I clicked on Wayne's resume...the guy's mind is as impressive as this site. Way to go Wayne!

Hey, if you haven't bought Wayne's engine rebuild book, do so. My copy arrived today. Anderson's book is crude by comparison, though both are good reference material.

Gosh -- Wayne's practically a kid! I pictured someone older. Congratulations on all that you have accomplished in such a short time.

I met Wayne once, On a business trip down from Canada I sometimes drop into the El Segundo store to pick up parts on the way back to the airport. One of the guys opened the door for me, went off to get my order, after some conversation I dicovered it was Wayne, real neat guy, one of the guys. Obviously I shook his hand, I had only really just got my P car so I was still (and still am) in a state of P'euporia. I was real pleased to meet him, your're right he is a wizard.

Wayne's new engine rebuild book arrived in my mailbox Yesterday, so I spent a couple of hours with it last night.

I read through Wayne's bio and realized why I'm so average... this guy went to MIT, got two degrees there, was on their solar challenge car crew (I can't imagine how competitive it must be to get in on that action), and, of course, is building a tidy little on-line parts company (for which he does all the web-site and database coding!!).

Obviously, he's darn smart and seriously motivated!!

BTW, the new book is truly incredible... now I just gotta go drive my car a bunch of miles so I can wear the engine out. Unfortunately, it's running like it is no where near a rebuild.

graduated 1 semester early at MIT for his Bachelors with a 4.7 out of 5 gpa and then graduated early with his masters with the same gpa again from MIT, must be a pretty smart feller

Author of "101 Projects"

Okay, as much as I like to perpetuate the myths, I will disclose some facts:

MIT was tough, but there were two types of people there. Those that were smart, and those that were smart and knew (or learned) how to concentrate and study. I saw a lot of people go down in flames because they couldn't figure out how to study. Having the ability to focus on a project is much more important then raw intelligence (I met a bunch of people who were super-smart, but flunked out because they had never had to work before in their life!).

The Solar car team was begging for people! It was fun, but as with everything else in life, there were a bunch of big egos that ruined it for a bunch of people. We won every race, but we didn't really have any competition (Nissan &Lockheed was sponsoring us - our competition was other community colleges!).

When I first saw "101 Projects for Your Harley Davidson" (they sent me this as a 'model' for the Porsche 101 book), I flipped my lid. Looking at the finished product makes it appear impossible to do. However, if you take one step at a time and work on it for a year, it all comes together. I think that some of 'yous guys' cars are way more advanced than anything that I would ever have the time or patience for!
