Shift boot questions

Will a leather shift boot from an 86 fit an 83 properly. I chekced the parts site, but could not confirm based upon what I saw.

Thanks

Adam

Hey Adam:
Sorry don't know the answer but wanted to say hello to a fellow NJ Adam with an SC! Where in Jersey are you?

Hey - that's pretty funny - I'm in Cherry Hill - how about you?

Are you planning on joining up with the caravan from NY to got to Hershy?

Adam - the blue one

I'm in Scotch Plains (Union county)....I really want to go to Hershey but the wife is giving me a hard time between my business travel, weekend plans etc, may have to wait until next year....

Mine's blue too, Petol Blue Metallic Targa....

I would think that it does fit. the leather shift boot goes over the rubber one on my '85. be careful taking off the shift knob - they are very expensive to replace...

Steve -

It just goes right on top of the rubber one ?!?!?! So that the leather and rubber are both coming through the hole in the console?

Adam -

bummer about Hersehy - I went last year (took my girfriend and so got not G & A) its a good trip.

how does the red come into play?

Adam-
yep, as far as I can tell. I've felt the rubber one underneath the leather, though I've never actually disassembled the shift boot cover. I think the rubber is the functional piece and the leather is the 'style' piece.

I have the leather, 1 piece knob and boot and it does go over the rubber boot and both are through th hole in the console.

On the shift boot thing, my concern would be that I still get the 4th to 5th shift f***d up sometimes and I like to lift the boot so I can check the gate, am I a moroon or what?! Guess I'm just paranoid....I should probably just remove the boot entirely...

My friends have been calling me "Red" for as long as I can remember so I always try that as my screen name for websites first, usually doesn't work....My hair (or what's left of it) used to be red....

Can't help you there. I do know that I cannot lift the leather boot up unless I unscrew the console and lift.
