found a compression spring in my oil filter
Hello,
I changed my oil today but while I removed the oil filter in order to change it a compression spring fell out. I don't know where it comes from :) I looked at the technical drawing of Porsche but ... not really similar to my setting. I have a 911 1970 2.2. if it help. Am I missing some parts ? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1588447977.JPG |
That looks like a spring from the oil filter's bypass valve (built into the filter itself) - guess it fell out of the filter somehow.

Thanks for the swift reply :)
I could not find where it came from looking at Porsche drawings. "From the filter it self" is a good explanation for me. :) |
Curious here....what brand of filter?

Take off the oil console, take a look at the back. Make sure the spring is still there.

yes it is.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1588453265.JPG It reminds me the movie "Le Man" when they drop some bolts in front of the Ferrari paddock. |

Here it is. Thanks! |
while not statistically significant, that's enough of an issue for me to trash my remaining Bosch filter and stick with mahle filters going forward
|
I've been using Mahle oil filters exclusively except for one time only. That one time I used a Porsche branded oil filter and it leaked. I'm sticking with Mahle.
