Fuel pump won't run, questions.
The car is a '78 SC (with no anti-theft system):
I put in the headlight relay kit last night, kit went in fine, headlights work properly. Went to start the car ... no start. Check for spark - OK. Checked fuel pump fuse - looks OK. Swapped horn relay for fuel pump relay - no help. Turned the key on and checked for power on both sides of the fuel pump fuse - OK. Removed air cleaner cover, turned on key, lifted air sensor plate - pump doesn't run (as it should, correct?). The only two screws on the fuse panel I touched, when installing the relay kit, were for the low and high beam headlights, so I can't see that this is what is causing my problem. I suppose this could just be a coincidental wiring failure somewhere between the fuse and the pump. Any suggestions on what I could have accidentally "touched" when installing the headlight relay that would affect the fuel pump? Tomorrow I'll jack it up and check for power at the pump. For now I'm just asking for any suggestions on the best (or next) thing to check. Thanks, Jerry M '78 SC |

see if the pump is getting power. remove the skid plate (X-dirtbiker) and you can pull the rubber deals off the contacts and check for current.
