Bbb industries 14892- alternator
I just bought a re-manufactured BBB INDUSTRIES 14892- ALTERNATOR for my 1987 Porsche 911. Does anyone know how reliable these items are?
Thanks |
Had to returned the alte. It showed up with broken regulator and cracked diode. Very disappointed.

find a local shop that rebuilds alternators and have them rebuild yours
|
Agreed, likely best to rebuild original. What is wrong with it?

A local rebuild shop can replace the old bearings, and you will have a person that cares about the quality of the work. Most alternators on the market are refurbished in a big facility and no pride in quality. Shop local and keep a local company in business. |
I agree with a local shop but I might ask what bearings they would use. My local place wanted to use some no-name chinesizum bearings if they rebuilt it. Instead I bought the bearing cap from them and ordered my own SKF high speed electrical sealed bearings.

Bearings are good. However, I had to replaced the regulator and the three phase diode. Thanks for your suggestion.
I live by Greensboro, NC. Are there any trustworthy Porsche shops around? |
The local shop suggestion sounds great but around here, appears to be a hit or miss.
Anyone know of a rebuilder familiar with this application or is it no different from rebuilding Honda alternators ? |
